Rook Wood
02:23
|
|||
Black rook lands on a wide red tile
Looks to the trees and waits for a while
For the last of the light to escape from the sky
And take a flight to the Buckenham wood
Up from the field and turning the fen
Once round the tower and once round again
Close to the river and a long way back
The rooks fly black - to the rook wood
Owl still sitting on the roof of the barn
Chestnut trees and a berry on a branch
Two claws turning catching the moon
The birds fly black - to the rook wood
The birds fly back to Buckenham wood

Behind the Rain
03:23
|

where will you go - behind the rain
where will you be - between wax and wane
behind the storm, hidden and closed
closed in the world that nobody knows
frost and fall, star and night
owl and eye, between moon and light
north and bear, ice and snow
still in the world that nobody knows
I’ll go to the place where the lightning sits
Where dragons fire and serpents hiss
I’ll go to the place where the lightning sits
Where the thunder growls and rain clouds mist
where will you go - cross and road
where will you be - between the world
behind the storm, hidden and closed
deep in the world that nobody knows
sword and edge, witch and craft
river and song, between spell and cast
tree and bough, rook and crow
high in the world that nobody knows
I’ll go to the place where the lightning sits
Where dragon fires and gryphons hiss
I’ll go to the place where the lightning sits
Where the thunder growls and rain clouds drift
where will you go - loch and sea
where will you be - between willow and tree
behind the rain, hidden and closed
fierce in the world that nobody knows
hoof and horn, grass and moor
gate and way, between veil and door
salt and sea, henge and stone
hidden in the world that nobody knows
I’ll go to the place where the lightning sits
where the thunder growls and rain clouds hiss
I’ll go to the place where the lightning sits
where gryphons fire and dragons wish
I’ll go to the place where the lightning sits
where dragons growl and serpents hiss

over the dark comes a light
moon bright, silver white, dazzling
and from the deep and cold abyss
that’s grasped your heart
she calls you on
follow the silver doe through the winter trees
you’ve been waiting for this moment all this time
through the prophecy
and lonely path you’re treading
she’ll always be
when everything’s been taken away from you
and the weight of loss crashes down
when pieces of broken magic lie in the snow
she’ll always
always - lead you through the dark
always - be the light before the dawn
from beneath the snow she’ll warm your heart
and spring will come - always

One by One
02:57
|

Scramble upwards, to the breathless sky
we are hundreds, we stand high
stone in a rindle, hoof on moss
down on an antler, a path we lost
we go one by one, deer on the mountain
always finding, turning round
listening scenting, higher ground
step on scree, step on grass
step on water, tumble past
we go one by one, deer on the mountain
the ledge is tilted, the ledge is dry
scramble upwards, to the empty sky
we go one by one, deer on the mountain

Horses of Poseidon
04:57
|
|||
horses - white horses
salt and seaweed, flanked by dolpins
and creatures deep
over lash and roar and rainbowed strands
with manes of kelp and churning sand
whinnying over the swell they come
spangled and quickening the earth to drum
horses - wild wet horses
your shoals of thunder shake my heart
my earth sways in your grasp
wake me - Father, wake me
as the sea holds the earth
so my earth - is in your hands
horses - a thousand white horses
as hoof and fetlock haul the sand
lift my head from where I’m bound
shake me from this hollow stand
this impassive shore and slow slow ground
spangle and quicken my earth to drum
with breath and trembling - come
Poseidon - Lord of the Sea
release me - Father, release me
release my heart, my feathered wing weed
with spangle and breath let me rise from the sea
over swell of green and steepled waves
with steaming flanks and fireweed braids
whinnying over the leaps they come
spangled and quickening my earth to drum
let me rise from the sea
and run with you
lead me with your sorcery
and the spell deep dreams of the breathing sea
